Job Summary:

Responsible for the management, development, and operation of the Cirrus Integration & Test Laboratory (ITL). This facility and its dedicated personnel support all phases of development, qualification, and certification testing for aircraft electrical and avionics systems.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Yes. Direct reports are individual contributors.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Reporting to the Executive Director of Avionics & Electrical Engineering, the Manager of the ITL is responsible for the leading the engineering team tasked with design, testing, certification, and ongoing engineering support of all aspects of aircraft electrical systems. Technical areas include component-level installation and troubleshooting, aircraft-level system level operations, and customer-facing mobile device applications. The manager will partner with design engineering, facilities, and safety to establish training requirements, preventative maintenance plans, and safe operating procedures for ongoing lab operations. The manager will review and guide creation of certification plans, test data, and test reports to meet 14 CFR Part 23 requirements. The manager will own the lab configuration for formal test activities.

The Manager of the ITL is responsible for progression and coaching of less experienced engineers, resource allocation, staffing, and performance reviews. This individual supports the Executive Director of A&E with budget planning and control, resource/project planning, and maintaining awareness of key deliverables and schedule milestones. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of fostering individual engagement and initiative, driving improvements to engineering process, and implementing design methodologies resulting in superior test and design leading to enhanced team productivity.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
  • 10 years total relevant experience
  • 4 years leadership experience


Experience in the following preferred:
  • Leading teams of 5 or more developers or testers working on multiple or complex interdisciplinary projects.e
  • Experience in lab setup or operations of an Integration Test Lab or Iron Bird.
  • Electric systems and/or Avionics experience specifically.
  • Aircraft component development and certification to 14 CFR Part 23 using DO-178C and DO-254.
  • Development of company processes for certification activities.
  • Use of laboratory test equipment (scopes, meters, etc), and verification / simulation tools (Labview, PXI, National Instruments).
  • Use of data analysis tools (Matlab, etc).
  • Use of scripting languages (Python, Perl).
  • Use of requirements and configuration management tools.
  • Pilot training/licensure preferred.

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak the English language
  • Ability to work both independently and within a cross-functional team.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and critical thinking/reasoning skills.
  • Able to cope with rapid change, as multiple objectives/projects are running concurrently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Project).
