JOB SUMMARY

Plans, develops, and provides diet interventions, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition care and preventive counseling to individuals and groups in all areas of primary and specialty patient care, acute care, skilled nursing, out-patient, and/or community settings. Provides medical nutrition therapy services and monitors nutritional care of clients/patients of all ages including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric as assigned. Ability to recognize, evaluates, and provide for nutritional needs based on cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs. Evaluates treatments or procedures for effectiveness using an evidence-based approach. Works on nutrition care protocols for the assigned area and acts as leader for the health care team in the implementation of the nutrition therapies. Identifies nutritional intervention methods within own specialty. Educates on diet according to disease state, medical condition and health risk. Incorporates new trends and techniques as necessary to design care plan and update standards of care policy manuals and educational material. Assists in tailoring clinical education and associated materials for use with clients/patients, families and caregivers. Performs quality control and maintains a high standard in relation to infection control mechanisms for safety. Aware and conscious of individual's insurance coverage and reimbursement circumstances, and participates in clinical performance improvement activities, including research that tests new treatments or procedures for clinical evidence of outcomes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Applies professional conduct and ethics in daily work; acts in compliance with legal requirements. Assists in calculating data for monitoring, measuring, analyzing, and reporting aggregate risks. Champions and contributes to the trend of professionalism in the field of nutritional therapy. Conducts client assessments and recommends nutritional therapies accordingly. Confers with clients to determine their range of acceptance; modifies diets as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of development and delivery of patient education for diverse audiences. Documents the critical elements within a patient chart to help others. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Follows up with patients using related diets and responds to their inquiries. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Monitors and reports on clients' responses to certain nutritional therapy plans. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Schedule includes full-time, Monday-Friday 8a-5p, with rotating weekends(1 every 16 weeks). Position will be located at the Fargo Sanford Medical Center.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently holds Registered Dietitian (RD) license within the applicable state(s). Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required, or must be registry eligible and obtained within six months of hire within the job. Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of hire. Minimum of a Bachelors degree in dietetics or food and nutrition through an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited program. Clinical nutrition experience through an approved coordinated undergraduate program or successful completion of post graduate internship required.
