Summer Internship (May - August)


Position Overview

The Financial Analyst - Intern will be responsible for recording, classifying, analyzing, summarizing, and allocating costs of doing business for use in controlling expenditures. The Financial Analyst - Intern will support the accounting & finance department in the areas of data collection, job costing, estimating and development of select budget and forecast models. The Internship provides students with an opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in the Finance/Accounting field with hands on experience. Interns will also be able to identify additional skills they will need to better prepare them for a rewarding career in the Finance/Accounting industry.

Responsibilities

Must be able to...
  • Help with special projects bringing creative thought and new perspectives
  • Study and collect data to determine costs of business activity
  • Perform detailed expenditure analysis to identify trends and areas in need of cost control focus
  • Provide variance analysis to highlight issues or opportunities to promote understanding of necessary changes
  • Enhance reporting and analysis efforts for decision support activities, including finding new ways to track and analyze data
  • Transform large data sets into actionable recommendations
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance/Accounting department to propose and implement on-going process improvement ideas to reduce operational costs
  • Provide management summary specifying and comparing factors affecting costs and profitability
Other Typical Tasks May also Include:
  • May be tasked with organizing and leading meetings
  • May take on additional responsibilities from Accounting & Finance leadership
  • May participate on cross-functional working teams or tasks forces
  • May participate in the creation of training & documentation of processes
  • May be asked to meet and present findings to management and executive team

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled as an undergrad student working towards a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting, P&L, and the balance sheet
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate with varied levels of employees
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly adaptable; possesses a strong ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to multi-task; strong project management skills
  • Ability to establish and contribute to a high degree of teamwork and collaboration with diverse groups
  • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using SQL
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using Visual Analytic tools - Tableau, Microstrategy
