Responsibilities
The AOD is delegated full authority and responsibility to exercise the FVAHCS Director's prerogative in medical administrative matters occurring during the tour of duty; represents and acts on behalf of the Director (non-policy making) administrative matters; represents FVAHCS in matters pertaining to the lawful retention of Veterans, maintains continuity of functions and provides full medical administration support during WHEN hours to clinical and administrative staff; responsible for achieving FVAHCS objectives and supporting the decisions of management in carrying out duties; provides technical guidance necessary to meet procedural, legal and administrative requirements related to the care and treatment of Veteran patients to achieve optimum use of available resources. Your duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serves as the principle representative of the FVAHCS Director and other administrative and Health Administration staff during WHEN hours.
- Provides information and assistance in order to facilitate effective and efficient operations.
- Delegated full authority of the Manager, Health Administration Service for administrative activities occurring on their tour.
- Interprets VA rules and regulations relating to determining legal entitlement to benefits relating to enrollment in the VA health care system, hospital admissions, Community Living Center, non-VA care, and outpatient care.
- Provides orientation and technical advice to physicians regarding VA policies and procedures.
- Assists staff with medically related legal issues including involuntary commitments, orders of protective custody, and management of unruly of severely disturbed patients.
- Coordinates all hospital admission calls with RN Supervisor and processes admissions accurately and timely, determines bed availability according to policy, applicant eligibility, enters required data Into the database, ensures patient identity is verified with proper identification and ensures the ward is aware of patient arrival.
- Establishes and maintains liaison with Public Affairs and Volunteer Services when applicable.
