Position Description:
The Extension Agent, Family Nutrition Program/Health Promotion, will work collaboratively with a team of Extension professionals and other agencies and organizations to provide direct teaching to adults and youth and other community outreach related to food and nutrition, food systems and physical activity. The position is supervised by the NDSU Extension Family Nutrition Program Coordinator. This is a full-time position with NDSU Extension, working out of the Sioux County Extension office in Fort Yates, ND. The position is contingent on the availability of funds to support the program.

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
• Provide program leadership by recruiting participants and teaching in the subject matters of food and nutrition, food resource management and physical activity to eligible households.
• Conduct needs assessments that result in educational experiences that meet the needs of the target audience.
• Build partnerships and collaborate with tribal, county, state, and federal governmental units, local organizations, coalitions, businesses and others to provide a comprehensive program in food and nutrition, food systems and physical active outreach.
• Identify and implement appropriate community engagement strategies to initiate and expand community wellness and food systems projects.
• Maintain and submit records accurately and on time. Manage operating budget.
• Encourage families to utilize assistance provided through community services and Federal food assistance programs.
• Identify and resolve barriers to program participation.
• Evaluate participants' progress and overall program effectiveness. Market the impact of educational programs delivered.
• Participate in professional development opportunities that enhance personal and professional effectiveness related to the duties of the position.
• Assure compliance with equal opportunity policies.
• Perform other assigned duties in support of Extension programming.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, public health, education, or closely related discipline.
2. Evidence of course work, professional development or work experience related to this position.
3. Program development and educational design skills to assess needs and issues and develop, deliver and evaluate comprehensive learning experiences that help diverse youth and adult audiences enhance their lives and communities.
4. Two+ years of relevant work experience with American Indian/Alaska Native populations.
5. Facilitation experience with community coalitions or organizations.
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
7. Information and educational technology skills necessary to reach and teach diverse audiences, work and communicate effectively, manage time and resources, and enhance one's ability to find, evaluate, and disseminate information.
8. Communication skills in oral, written and listening, developing and conveying a clear concise message appropriate for the audience and for working effectively with others.
9. Organizational management skills including the ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment, work flexible hours which may include evenings and weekends, manage time and resources, and keep good records to efficiently accomplish the duties of the position.
10. Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to the principles of diversity.
11. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, to meet program participant needs and availability.
12. Personal vehicle and valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree in Human Nutrition, Public/Community Health, Health Communications, or closely related field
2. Work experience in food and nutrition education.
3. Knowledge of community-based programming and existing community services for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
4. Understanding of policy, systems and environmental ( PSE ) change efforts for health promotion.
5. Five+ years of relevant work experience with American Indian/Alaska Native populations.
6. Two+ years of relevant work experience with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
7. Demonstrated work or volunteer experience with low-income families.
