The Emergency Medical Technician supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System. This position responds to all emergency calls, keeping patients and family members informed, while following all standard protocols. The Emergency Medical Technician demonstrates safe driving habits in emergency and non-emergency situations and helps maintain equipment and vehicles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System.
  • Responds to ambulance calls for the entire region.
  • Transports patients to all internal departments at Altru Hospital, as well as to Fargo, Minneapolis, and Rochester and is a member of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) transport team.
  • Provides coverage for various special functions throughout the Grand Forks community and surrounding areas, i.e., races, sporting events, city sponsored events.
  • Works in the Emergency Room assisting the RNs with triage and critical patient care.
  • Performs and documents assessments according to standard operating procedure guidelines and/or as patient condition requires, i.e., vital signs, intake and output, room/caregiver assignment, etc. and ensures patient is properly identified.
  • Identifies patient/patient's family needs, documents and plans in order to meet those needs, i.e., counseling, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust own schedule to meet fluctuation in workload and communicates this information to appropriate staff.
  • Works as a cohesive team with First Responders. Creates a smooth transition of care. Provides feedback and follow-up to First Responders as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification upon hire.
  • Registration with the North Dakota Board of Emergency Services.
  • Registration with Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board.
  • Driver's License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Successful completion of the functional assessment.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in emergency medical service.
