Plant Mechanical Maintenance Internship
Minnkota Power is seeking two qualified students for a Plant Mechanical Maintenance Internship at our Milton R. Young Power Plant near Center, ND. The Milton R. Young Station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant, providing a stable energy source for our cooperative member-owners. The station is located 35 miles from Bismarck, North Dakota, a growing and progressive city with many recreational opportunities.
This internship would be from May 13, 2019 through August 2019. Wage for this internship is $19.92 per hour.
The students will assist with the following:
  • Assists with the maintenance, repair, installation and removal of station, pumping stations and yard mechanical equipment and structures.
  • Performs duties as Toolroom Attendant and helps painter-insulator when needed.
  • Performs typical duties and works with other maintenance classifications as a composite crew in the performance of his duties.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a student of a North Dakota vocational-technical school, and enrolled in studies related to industrial maintenance, or similar study with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Must have a valid driver's license.
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend and frequently utilize a keyboard/computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching above and below shoulder level, crawling, pushing and pulling up to 75 pounds. Use of tools and foot controls and turning valves.
Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent will be required to problem solve, read, write and analyze data, work under schedules and deadline pressure, present information to others, work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.
Work Environment: Exposed occasionally to dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, confined areas and working at heights up to 150 feet.
