Job Details

The Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences departments, in a joint effort, invite applications for a 12-month, post-doctoral fellow to study alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) aggregation, a hallmark of several brain disorders known as synucleinopathies. The appointment will be full time and benefitted with an expected start date of March 16, 2019.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate's research will consist in combining both experimental biomedical research and theoretical computational chemistry to understand and analyze mechanisms underlying α-Syn aggregation, including the connection with lipids and oxysterols in particular as a potential trigger and diagnostic marker. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to publish multiple first author, peer-reviewed manuscripts. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing manuscripts, supervising undergraduate research assistants, and presenting results at conferences. S/he will also collaborate on proposals to external granting agencies. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students and interact with the larger scientific community at the University of North Dakota.
 
Competencies

  • Excellent oral and written English proficiency.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students and interdisciplinary research teams.

 
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Chemistry or Biomedical Sciences or in a related field
  • Research experience in molecular simulation (molecular dynamics or Monte Carlo simulations)

 
Preferred Skills/Desirable Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise in programming
  • Strong publication record
  • Experience in Alzheimer’s disease research
  • Experience in mentoring students
