JOB SUMMARY

Assists nursing personnel with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Performs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Assist with clinical duties as delegated within roles and responsibilities, personalized training and competency, and needs of specific ambulatory setting. Assists with taking vital signs. Maintains stock of medical supplies needed for registered nurse or physician. Complies with all patient duties assigned. The Nursing Assistant serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. Administer delegated tasks and treatments. Record vital statistics and other basic health information. Provide assistance with basic health care needs including rooming the patients, daily living activities; emotional and spiritual needs. Will collect non-invasive biological specimens from patients as needed. Perform clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient healthcare. Prepare patient treatment areas for use; prepare and clean medical equipment; dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy. Clean patient areas or treatment rooms.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Performs routine cleaning and disinfecting tasks in certain areas of a healthcare organization. Follows direction in relation to the time and effort needed to achieve work objectives. Examines the patient chart and consults with providers to determine how to proceed. Creates periodic reports detailing patient safety incidents or violations. Completes tasks and inspires confidence in leaders by demonstrating honesty and integrity. Collects information on the key initiatives of intake assessments. Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
Minimum of six months’ experience preferred. Experience in a clinic setting preferred.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be registered as a Nurse Assistant through the appropriate state Department of Health (DOH) within four months from the date of hire.
