JOB SUMMARY

Will assist pathologists in autopsies. Self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice. Also assists Histology techs, PA's, and Pathology residents with gross examination of tissue specimens and performing frozen sections from surgery.
Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Must have the initiative and judgment to do assigned work. Assists in performing laboratory activities and other assigned tasks as needed, which may include preparing and/or processing specimens. May be responsible for entering laboratory orders and results. Ensures the accuracy and quality of laboratory data in a safe and professional work environment. Need to keep abreast of new procedures in the department as well as changes in general Sanford policy and procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Ask questions and seeks help when needed.;Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).;Understands the importance of documenting patient health information.;Understands the importance and purpose of medical documentation.;Understanding of the importance of insightful listening, communicating and ability to provide information and messages in a way that produces clarity and impact.;Participates in collecting and processing specimens (e.g. blood) according to test requests.;Follows pre-established patient safety guidelines.;Demonstrates an understanding of the underlying concepts and values of a service organization.;

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This position is full time 80 hours/pp. Working for 2 weeks between 4AM-12:30PM Tuesday - Saturday and 4 weeks 8AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or General Educational Development Diploma (GED) required.
