Be part of our team as we maintain security, safety, and operations of the jail and court services. $20.91/hour.

The primary responsibilities will be to transport adult inmates, juvenile inmates, and mentally ill persons to and from other facilities including, but not limited to, court, other correctional facilities and hospitals. The Jail Transport Officers will work directly with court services, probation, and social services, as well as the Douglas County Jail to arrange schedules and court appearances.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Transport adult and juvenile inmates, both male and female, to prison, other correctional facilities, court appearances, medical appointments, and juvenile hold facilities.
*Transport mentally ill people to and from court appearances and hospitals, as required.
*Responsible for the maintenance and servicing of the transport vehicles and taking care of any calls for service associated with their transports.
*May perform Correctional Officer or Bailiff duties, as directed.
*Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and punctuality according to the department's work schedule is expected.
*Perform all work in compliance with Douglas County Safety Program, including the AWAIR policy and applicable OSHA standards.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT HIRE:
*High school diploma or G.E.D.
*Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement or higher (as required by POST Board)
*Possess a valid Class D Minnesota Driver's License at all times.
*Maintain a current Minnesota Peace Officer and Standard Training (POST) License. For hire: Current Minnesota Peace Officer and Standard Training (POST) License or eligible for licensure by the closing date of the open position, by the MN POST Board, as a full-time status Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota.
*Maintain a working telephone in case of times of emergencies or as needed.
*Must be able to qualify with firearms in accordance with department policy.
*Be free from any physical disabilities that would prevent execution of assigned duties.
*Be physically fit to perform all duties assigned and be able to perform use of force techniques quickly and effectively as instructed in Use of Force class.
*Be able to perform any physical fitness standards that may be set by the Sheriff's Office.

REQUIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & QUALITIES AT HIRE:
*Must possess good character, good judgment, and have the ability to deal well with people.
*Must have good social skills, general intelligence, and an aptitude for the position.
*Must be familiar with department, state, and federal rules and regulations, policies, procedures, and directives.
*Must have the ability to deal with the public and inmates courteously, tactfully, and firmly and have knowledge of self-defense and the ability to use such training.
*Must have knowledge and ability to operate police equipment, including vehicles and radios, safely and skillfully, and be able to drive long hours safely and effectively.
*Must be able to comprehend maps and follow directions to and from other correctional facilities and hospitals.
*Good written and verbal communication skills
*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, court, and enforcement agency representatives, as well as the general public.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/QAULITIES
*Previous experience transporting inmates.
*Previous experience in the care and custody of inmates.
*Current CPR, First Aid, and Use of Force certificates.
*Good driving record.
*Proficiency with computers.
