Position Description:
The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute invites applications for a research scientist position. The UGPTI offers an exciting opportunity to pursue research and professional development in activities that focus on transportation. The candidate seeking to join us for this position will be involved in a wide range of rural transportation issues. The individual will have the opportunity to utilize his/her strengths in contributing to a growing program of research and knowledge transfer. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential. This is a full-time benefited position. Specific responsibilities include:
(1) Conduct research projects related to agriculture and traffic safety
(2) Manage and administer surveys
(3) Manage databases and ensure data quality; and
(4) Provide quarterly reports of work progress and deliverables

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in sociology, agricultural economics, public health, education, political science, criminal justice, transportation/logistics, or other related field
• Proficiency with SPSS or SAS and MS Office software applications
• Demonstrated experience with surveys, interviews, focus groups and/or content analysis
• Experience with providing customer service and/or conducting public meetings
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:
• Extensive mixed methods research experience
• Work experience in the agricultural and/or traffic safety stakeholders
• Grant proposal and research writing experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of agriculture and/or rural transportation issues and policies
