Hiring Department:  UND Aerospace - Flight Operations

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Status:  $75,000+/year, Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt.
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans. 
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm; may require work outside of the normal business hours.

  • UAS Course Management 
    • Develop and maintain TCOs in Curriculum Manager (AVIT 238, AVIT 337, AVIT 438)
    • Review, edit, and update TCOs with editions and revision changes as applicable.
    • Develop and maintain checklists for ScanEagle, PRINCE, Ranger/UAS, and ground support equipment.
    • Implement standardization of equipment and instructors pertaining to ScanEagle, PRINCE, Ranger/UAS instructions.
    • Develop and maintain Pilots Operations Handbooks for applicable equipment when not developed by manufacturer.
    • Develop and maintain UAS aircraft dispatch books.
    • Manager UAS flight lab websites on HTML.ez.
    • Provide oversight of UAS flight lab schedule, and student enrollment.
    • Develop additional instructor training supplements or UAS flight lesson aids/guides

 

  •  UAS Instructor Oversight/Management of Hourly UAS employees 
    • Supervise hourly instructor’s flight and ground training for AVIT 238, AVIT 337, AVIT 438.
    • Monitor flight lab progression and completion rates.
    • Assign AVIT 238, AVIT 337, AVIT 438 flight labs.
    • Recruit, hire, and train UAS instructors to include:
      • Initial new hire training.
      • Initial standardizations.
      • Annual standardizations.
      • Course briefings.
    • Monitor student records.
    • Ensure compliance with TCOs, SP&P, and other applicable manuals.
    • Organize and conduct UAS Review Boards when applicable, i.e. student or instructor conduct student performance (including ground school), safety concerns, accident/incident/occurrence response.

 

  •  UAS Instructor Duties 
    • Conduct UAS student flight and ground training for applicable courses.
    • Maintain appropriate student records.
    • Ensure student completion rate and success is met.
    • Conduct Intermediate and final UAS stage checks.
    • Maintain accurate student logbook entries.

 

  • General UAS Department Management
    • Serve as POC for UAS Emergency Response Plan/Information Gathering Checklist events.
    • Maintain UAS Part/Inventory list/records.
    • Coordinate purchase of additional equipment.
    • Conduct maintenance of ScanEagle simulator.
    • Manage classroom computers to ensure proper supplements and software updates.
    • Design/develop and coordinate ordering of invoice slips and other department materials/forms.
    • Update semesterly electronic key card access for students and instructors to applicable areas of Robin Hall (basement and/or classrooms).
    • Update applicable parts of Safety Policies and Procedures pertaining to UAS.
    • Develop and maintain UAS employee handbook/manuals.
    • Develop and implement changes to Flight Operations Handbooks to ensure UAS coordination.
    • Educate and communicate with other departments (i.e. SOF, dispatch, scheduling, etc) on UAS procedures.
    • Maintain UAS department equipment to include:
      • UAS Trailer.
      • UAS Aircraft.
      • Ground support equipment.
      • Supplemental mobile equipment (generator, fuel, desks, chairs, etc).
      • ScanEagle ground support equipment.

 

  •  UAS Legal, Regulatory, and FAA Management 
    • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with ITAR Compliance Manual.
    • Submit and manager FAA UAS Waivers.
    • Maintain UND’s UAS 333 exemptions.
    • Complete initial and recurrent FAA UAS aircraft registrations.
    • Manage UAS aircraft insurance. 

 

  • Outreach
    • Conduct and coordinate UAS high school tours.
    • Participate in prospective student tours and meetings.
    • Conduct “VIP” UAS tours.
    • Present UAS educational presentations (intercampus and to outside entities).

 

  • Committee/SME Involvement
    • UND UAS Law Committee.
    • UND UAS Policy Committee.
    • Flight Operations Safety Council.
    • Flight Operations SMS Review Committee.



Required Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions concerning training problems.
  • Good team building skills.
  • Motivated, self-starter with the ability to perform without direct supervision.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in UAS training.
  • Remote pilot certificate.
  • Current FAA second class medical certificate.
  • Experience in analyzing and defining software system requirements for training.
  • Experience with PRINCE UAS simulators desirable.
  • Instructional experience in small fixed wing UAS platforms.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Instructional experience with the Boeing/Insitu ScanEagle, Software-in-the Loop (SSIL) & UAS Simulator
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) & Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII)
  • Commercial Pilot with Instrument Rating
