Job Details
The Information Technology Department provides technology tools and support to all employees of Alerus Financial. As part of the IT team the Application Analyst's primary responsibility is to support applications used by Alerus Financial. This position will be responsible for implementation and support of both packaged and custom applications programmed with a variety of programming languages and using a variety of database systems, middleware systems and ancillary systems. Collaborating with IT and the business units in the development, testing, documentation, deployment as well as ongoing maintenance and operational support of application deployments and changes is required. Adhering to established protocols surrounding development and change management is essential.
Essential Responsibilities:
Job Function Number 1: Manage day to day application maintenance and support. 50%
- Demonstrate knowledge of the systems development lifecycle and business process reengineer methodology.
- Provide support to others in IT as well as business users to help resolve any application issues.
- Provide on-call support for application issues.
- Create business reports as necessary to support business operations and infrastructure.
- Maintain databases for all assigned applications.
- Application of systems analysis techniques and procedures including consulting with users to determine software or system functional specifications for the above-referenced software.
- Serve as the resource for other application team members on technical and functional application analysis, defining system requirements, and developing logical data models using best practices for build and configuration, maintenance and data integrity.
- Work with cross functional teams by providing education on system functionality, and configuration of new tools to increase end user productivity within the application.
Job Function Number 2: Develop & enhance utilization of assigned business applications. 40%
- Analyze business needs and develop detailed requirements for software selection or systems development, and prepare functional design specifications.
- Assist in preparing business case for recommended solutions, including software packages and evaluate new application software and the impact of application changes.
- Communicate project status, issues and problems to project leader while meeting deadlines and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Build and maintain good relationships with business customers, colleagues, contractors, vendors and consultants and support them through each project to ensure mutual success.
- Document test cases, test scenarios and system diagrams.
- Provide instruction on various technical topics to other team members, managing an application project through the entire project life cycle while meeting project deadlines and initiatives.
- Coordinate the development of new functionality, testing and implementing scheduled vendor releases and system upgrades, and fixing system defects.
- Ensure system changes follow change management procedures and protocols, create and maintain all documentation for all assigned applications, and develop, plan and execute testing for supported applications. Communicate all necessary application changes, enhancements, and procedures to all necessary internal department teams.
- Write, analyze and debug code for all internal client server and web based applications. Test, develop and provide training and technical support for new applications or modification to existing applications.
- Development, documentation, analysis, testing, and/or modification of computer programs based on and related to user or system design specifications.
- Documentation, testing, and/or modification of computer programs as they relate to the computer operating system.
Job Function Number 3: Provide backup & support for Night Computer Operator. 10%
- Nightly system processing and updates.
- Report/Notice Distribution.
- Problem notification and documentation.
- Backup tape inventory/rotation.
- System Saves and Purges.
Position Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer related field or equivalent experience required.
- 3+ years' experience in application management experience preferred.
- Fiserv Signature system knowledge preferred.
- IBM iSeries experience preferred.
- Flexibility with schedule for backup coverage, system conversions, updates and maintenance.
- Ability to adapt easily to change within a fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

Physical Demands: (must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation)
- Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
- Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
- Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 50 lbs.
- Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
