Primary Focus

This position is responsible will plan, lay out and perform fabricating and assembly operations on sheet metal products with minimum supervision; set up and operate metal fabricating machines verifying the product to the prints to insure specifications are met. Finally, the work area will be maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities can occur on a daily basis:

Safety

  • Assure that work practices are in the guidelines of OSHA standards
  • CNC operators are required to wear safety glasses, hard toed shoes

Job Duties

  • Receives work orders and prints, developing sketches and using shop calculations if necessary. Selects materials according to strength, durability and suitability for a particular job. 
  • Set up and operate sheet metal fabricating machines, e.g. shears, brakes, roll formers, nibbling shear, crimper, punches, drills, etc., to cut, trim, form, shape and otherwise prepare parts and sections for assembly. 
  • Fabricates and lays out work in advance of production requirements. Uses machine and hand tools to cut and form pieces to required dimensions. Solders, rolls, or rivets seams. Reinforces parts if necessary. 
  • Performs nesting operations using Radan software to maximize the material usage.
  • Performs metal maintenance work and fabrication of equipment such as doors, side panels cabinet components etc.
  • Prepares requisitions for sheet metal materials when not available in stores department. Maintains project or repair records. 
  • Works with and accepts feedback regarding form fit and function from Engineering and the Assembly group.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, production run and verification.
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. 
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions. 

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to focus on the task at hand and pay attention to detail 
  • Work in a deadline-oriented environment, completing the weekly schedule on time
  • Sheet Metal operators are required to wear safety glasses, hard toed shoes
  • Work in a team environment to maximize productivity and efficiency
  • There will be occasions when the operator will lift items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Maintain all work areas in a clean organized and safe manner
  • Take instructions from supervisors
  • Tools to be provided by the Sheet Metal operator

  • Provide assistance with all other duties as requested.
