Budget/Accountant Analyst

Job Summary

The Budget Analyst is responsible for monitoring budget variances to actual operating expenses and researching variances. This position handles budget development, allocation and reporting as well as audits and billings to subsidiaries and other external entities. In addition, this role serves as a resource for management regarding budget questions.

Essential Functions

• Analyzes monthly budget reporting, researches variances and unbudgeted payments and follows up with and provides guidance to staff regarding budget implications.
• Determines budget impact for new projects or purchases.
• Supports the overall budget process through detailed budget development, consultation with business, and cost analysis. Prepares and reviews budget reporting and serves as a resource for management and serves as a resource.
• Prepares monthly billing to vendors and affiliates for services provided by the Company.
• Prepares monthly service center statistical files for operating expense allocations and product line operating expense costing. Receives, loads and codes information to product lines and analyzes data for reasonableness. Researches corrections and/or updates based on Company, system and other changes.
• Updates budget files and expense history and recommends budget and adjustments.
• Serves as a backup for financial system administration for the accounting system and reporting tool.
• Assists in loading journal entries and statistical files in the accounting system, updating system reports in the system reporting tool and assisting with system maintenance.
• Assists in providing information and responses to various audits including internal auditors, Department of Insurance (DOI), Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and annual financial statement and other external auditors.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's

Preferred: Bachelor's

Field(s) of Study: Accounting, Business, Finance or related field 

Experience Requirements

Required: Minimum of 1 Year

Preferred: Minimum of 2 Years

Experience Details: Minimum of 1 year of accounting, budget, cost accounting or related experience is required.

Certification, Licensures & Registration Requirements

Title: CPA is preferred

State or Agency: State Board of Accountancy

Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards
