JOB SUMMARY
Operates, maintains, and services all power plant equipment including engine generator sets, boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and motors. Performs water analysis on all systems and adds chemicals to keep levels in recommended ranges. The Power Plant Technician monitors and diagnoses control issues on systems integral to the operation of the buildings. Oversees and monitors building automation system and directs any issues to maintenance department. Keeps daily log sheets on major operating equipment. Understanding of electrical test equipment and procedures. Familiar with hand tools. Ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals. Must have strong mechanical and electrical trouble shooting ability. Capable of accurate written and or oral explanations involving procedures, situations, and equipment.#featuredjobs
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems. Control power generating equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, or reactors, using control boards or semi-automatic equipment. Control or maintain auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, or chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air, or auxiliary power. Start or stop generators, auxiliary pumping equipment, turbines, or other power plant equipment as necessary. Take regulatory action, based on readings from charts, meters and gauges, at established intervals. Inspect records or log book entries or communicate with plant personnel to assess equipment operating status. Record and compile operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs, or reports. Clean, lubricate, or maintain equipment, such as generators, turbines, pumps, or compressors, to prevent failure or deterioration. Place standby emergency electrical generators on line in emergencies and monitor the temperature, output, and lubrication of the system.
QUALIFICATIONS
May require Boiler license. Valid Driver's License required. Must maintain good driving record. High School Diploma or GED required. Trade or Vo-Tech school in a related area preferred. Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of power production equipment, boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water softeners and related systems.
