VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESEARCH AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/DEAN OF GRADUATE STUDIES
 
 
The University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking candidates for the combined position of Vice President for Research and Economic Development (Vice President) and Dean of Graduate Studies (Graduate Dean).  The candidate will build upon the strong foundation of the research office to support and expand its role in implementing the University’s new strategic plan – “One UND” – through strategic research initiatives.
 
UND is implementing a One UND Strategic Plan that will set the course for the next several years and is designed to promote thoughtful and strategic growth. UND’s goal is to generate opportunity for the state by diversifying its economy and addressing societal grand challenges through cutting-edge research.  Major growth and positive change are the hallmarks of this new era – research expenditures have expanded and are now close to $105 million annually. 
 
The Vice President for Research and Economic Development/Graduate Dean is the chief research officer for the University of North Dakota and reports both to the President and Provost. The successful candidate will be responsible for the promotion of research as well as the coordination of research-related operations across all disciplines and university units, including compliance functions, sponsored programs, internal funding programs, animal research services, technology transfer and the commercialization of intellectual property, as well as promoting research within graduate studies. The Vice President is also responsible for identifying and supporting strategic collaborative economic development initiatives with the private and public sectors. UND is a nationally prominent, student-focused doctoral institution, offering more than 120 graduate degree and certificate programs. Its cutting-edge research, creative scholarship, and trendsetting professional programs have received national and global recognition.
 
The successful candidate will bring a commitment to scholarship and vision to support, maintain, and expand the University’s research efforts, while also possessing the ability to showcase the University’s research and scholarship to UND Stakeholders.
