Position Description:
The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University ( NDSU ) invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with 95% research and 5% teaching responsibilities. The successful applicant will develop an externally-funded research program that focuses on managing and understanding rust diseases of wheat. The position is open to all areas of research, although preference will be given to fundamental aspects of the host/pathogen interaction or population biology. Responsibilities include field and greenhouse evaluations of a limited number of advanced wheat lines generated by NDSU breeding programs for reaction to prevalent races of wheat leaf rust and stripe rust pathogens. The successful applicant will join a large, productive, and dynamic team of NDSU and USDA wheat scientists in Fargo which includes other pathologists, plant breeders, entomologists, molecular biologists and cytogeneticists. The successful applicant will direct graduate students and teach one graduate-level course in an area of expertise. This position will continue the long and continuous tradition of rust pathology research in North Dakota that began with H. L. Bolley and included H. H. Flor.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in plant pathology or closely related field that includes extensive training in plant pathology; demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research on rust diseases of agronomic crops; and strong interpersonal and effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated abilities in classical and molecular host genetics; experience with field plot research and screening for resistance; experience with grower or commodity groups; demonstrated success in obtaining competitive grants; and experience teaching at the college level.
