JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing administrative leadership, expertise, and direction to the Laboratory Departments. Develops and monitors appropriate indicators for quality and continuous improvement. Manages the operations of the laboratory departments including human resources, budget and finance, and legal and regulatory compliance. Expected to effectively interview, hire, counsel, discipline and, when needed, terminate employees. Supports and mentors managers and supervisors when dealing with staffing, personnel, or process issues. Serves as a resource and primary laboratory contact and represents the laboratory on an interdisciplinary and enterprise level. Has major responsibility for implementing the vision and mission of the organization within the departments. Expected to contribute to the strategic planning process and attainment of goals of the organization.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Develops a culture in which all members work constructively to improve the performance of individuals and the team. Coaches others to develop stronger change management skills and greater comfort with change. Champions behaviors that inspire cohesiveness and move the organization to reach a vision. Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques. Seeks opportunities to help others learn as teacher, coach, and mentor. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Monitors and ensures adherence to organization's financial practices and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field required; Masters degree preferred.
Must have at least five years of management experience.
Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
