OPENING DATE: 05/06/2019

STARTING DATE: June 10, 2019
COMPENSATION: $20.00/hour

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This is a part-time, non-benefited, 9 month position with approximately 19 hours/week.

Months/hours:
June: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm;
August - December: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm;
January - May: Monday - Thursday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides support for the Bismarck State College electrical lineworker program and facilities.
  2. Assists the electrical lineworker program faculty members in overseeing student lab activities.
  3. Assists with equipment upkeep and maintenance as directed by the faculty lead.

DUTIES:

Work site duties:
  • Assists in training students to industry standards.
  • Maintains accountability of materials and supplies.
  • Supervises students and makes sure they are wearing proper safety apparel and are following safety procedures.
  • Keeps the area clean and organized.
  • Ensures damaged tools are repaired or replaced.
Shop duties:
  • Opens and closes the shop and classrooms. Ensures that students clean the area at the end of labs and maintains cleanliness throughout the area.
  • Ensures all shop equipment is in good mechanical condition.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as directed.
  • Sets up labs for specific training activities scheduled by the lineworker faculty.
Reports student issues to faculty members by following proper procedures (i.e. student conduct concerns, etc.).

Supports innovation, creativity and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and as a whole for the college.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Requires knowledge, skills, and abilities of a journeyman lineworker.
  • Good interpersonal skills, demonstrated positive customer service skills, and ability to relate to people of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience in the electrical lineworker field.
  • Has obtained a CDL endorsement.
