Position Description:
The primary responsibility of this positions is to develop process models to simulate the production of biobased products including chemicals, polymers, coatings, using process simulation software Aspen Plus. The goal of this research is to identify pathways for producing bio-based chemicals that cost-effectively reduce the environmental impacts of the chemical industry.
There will be close collaboration with other research groups who mainly focus on synthesizing novel biobased chemicals, polymers and coatings.
65% - Conduct research in process modelling, simulation and optimization for chemical and polymer biorefineries.
25% - Actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, communicating frequently with other research groups. Provide mentoring for graduate students as needed.
10% - Publish and report research results in peer reviewed journals and at professional meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must 1) have a degree in chemical engineering, agricultural and biological engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution; 2) have a demonstrated strong experience in process simulation of biobased chemicals and polymers including soybean and corn based coating chemicals and latex paint; and 3) have strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work both independently and as part of team and collaborate with others.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated interest or experience in 1) techno-economic assessment of polymers and coatings, 2) data analysis and statistics, 3) biobased product research including soybean and corn-based biochemical, biopolymer and biofuel, and 4) sustainability assessment.
