JOB SUMMARY

Prepares sections of tissue specimens for routine and special examinations. Performs histological procedures to embed, stain, and mount samples using routine and special techniques to make tissue slides used for diagnosis. Examines specimen slides; enters and tracks result information and generates result reports. Maintains and repairs lab instruments. Sterilizes work area and stocks supplies. Ensures all lab safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met. Will work with self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice. Will be responsible for performing routine duties in all areas of the Histology Laboratory. May be required to interact with all ages of client population. Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Keep abreast of new procedures in the department as well as changes in general hospital policy and procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows standard procedures to verify and report unacceptable clinical specimens.;Adheres to laboratory policies and ethics for clinical specimen preparation.;Maintains a safe working environment, including proper handling of materials and equipment.;Completes staining processes, including making and air drying smears and fixing and staining cells.;Utilizes quality control techniques to monitor and maintain laboratory equipment.;Operates and calibrates equipment in a basic laboratory environment.;Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).;Uses various techniques for clinical specimen preparation, following standard protocols.;Records specimen identification throughout clinical specimen preparation procedures.;Participates in the preparation of simple clinical specimens according to different requests.;

This is a full-time opportunity. We are looking for an individual who is looking for a growing opportunity. The histology department would like to provide an individual with the experience and knowledge to become a certified Histotechnologist.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree required.
