Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

The COTA perform specific pediatric occupational therapy duties under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). Evaluations, treatment goals, treatment modifications, and discharges are established by the OT, and this data is interpreted by the COTA within the scope of their education. The COTA administers modalities, exercise, client education and other treatments to achieve client goals and outcomes, as determined by the OT. Treatment initiation and alteration are done with prior approval of the OT. The COTA responds to inquiries regarding client status to appropriate parties within the protocol established by OT. The COTA assists the OTR in evaluating, planning, organizing and implementing the OT services for their assigned caseload; assists in establishing short and long term treatment goals; consults with OTR and other professionals in carrying out services; trains direct care staff, families, education staff, and others as appropriate. The COTA completes paperwork such as daily notes, billing and discharge summaries under the supervision of the OTR. They also track data needed to carry out program objectives.

This position will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum of three years general recruiting experience or A.A.S. degree in human resources with minimum two years recruiting or human resource generalist experience.
  • Must possess current knowledge and experience with employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • An AA degree from an AOTA accredited school for COTAs is necessary and current North Dakota licensure as a certified occupational therapist assistant, or eligibility and evidence of application for licensure, is necessary.
  • Ability to manage a caseload
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements as defined by state regulations for ND licensure.


Preferred/Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in the area of pediatrics/young adults and/or developmental disabilities is desired, but not necessary.
