Position Description:
This position is to work as a Laboratory Technician in the Core Biology Facility. This multi-user laboratory is located in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and technical support for molecular biology applications, bioassay development/analysis, and cell biology techniques to all researchers at North Dakota State University.

This position is funded by local funded sources and is dependent on continuation of this support.

The primary duties include:
  • Perform training and support to researchers in mammalian tissue culture techniques.
  • Perform training and support to researchers in various molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid and protein isolation, quantition of nucleic acids and proteins, PCR , real time PCR , cloning, western blotting, and colorimetric/flurometric quantitative assays.
  • Train researchers how to properly operate laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with laboratory management such as perform and maintain documentation on laboratory equipment maintenance, accurately document duties performed for billing, assist with keeping record of inventory and supplies, and assist with ordering/receiving orders.
  • Understand and follow standard operating procedures. Assist with writing new standard operating procedures as they become needed.
  • Work safely in a research/laboratory environment including safe handling of chemical and bio-hazardous waste.
  • Perform other laboratory duties as needed/directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree ( STEM field)
  • Four years applicable laboratory experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Able to communicate and work well in a diverse environment
  • Must be able to wear PPE consistent with a BSL -2 laboratory environment (may include respirator)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Laboratory management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in training personnel in laboratory techniques
  • Flow cytometry experience
