Position Description:
The Department of Biological Sciences houses 18 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 4 teaching faculty, and 7 staff members. It offers BA/BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees to the approximately 550 undergraduate and 50 graduate students enrolled in its programs. Undergraduate degrees are offered in biological sciences and biological sciences education. Graduate degrees are offered in biology, and the department also participates in several interdisciplinary graduate programs: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Environment and Conservation Sciences, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Natural Resource Management, and STEM Education. Research in the department is clustered into three main focal areas: developmental and regulatory biology; ecology, evolutionary, and conservation biology; and STEM education. The Department of Biological Sciences has a 12-month, part-time (50%) position for an advisor/lecturer. Responsibilities for the position include (1) advising 1st- and 2nd-year biological sciences majors (2) recruiting undergraduate students, (3) teaching Biology 189 (Skills for Academic Success); and (5) other related duties as needs arise.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA or BS degree from an accredited institution
  • Computer skills
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with advising or working with students in a university setting
  • Educational or work experience in life sciences fields
  • Teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse community in a respectful manner
