Job Details

Position Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to assist with outreach, teaching and research activities conducted by the Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives ( QBCC ) at North Dakota State University. Outreach activities include developing, reviewing and delivering educational materials and programs targeting cooperative leaders, members and employees. The objective of these efforts is to increase the understanding of the cooperative business models and enhance decision making, leading to more efficiently run cooperatives. Outreach responsibilities will also include responding to information requests from cooperative leaders, members and the general public.

Research responsibilities will focus on projects investigating the unique attributes of the alternative cooperative business models, methods to improve the efficiency of cooperative businesses and other issues important to cooperatives within the region. Teaching duties will include assisting with the development, review and delivery of educational materials focused on the cooperative business models to college/university undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in on-line or in-residence classes.

Collaboration with other Agribusiness and Applied Economics faculty, colleagues in other agricultural and business disciplines and professional colleagues at the regional and national levels is expected. The successful candidate is encouraged to generate extramural funding to support research activities and augment QBCC resources.

The successful candidate reports to the Director of the QBCC for outreach, teaching and research evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A Masters degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Business, Applied Economics or related field, by the position start date;
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills and essential information technology skills;
3. Academic training and/or experience in cooperatives, agribusiness management or closely related field;
4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment;

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of the cooperative business models, cooperative management and/or cooperative finance.
2. Evidence of effective applied research, teaching and/or outreach activities;
3. Demonstrated ability to secure and administer external funds;
4. Experience in developing and delivering educational programs by media, such as video conferencing, audio/video web streaming or podcasting;
5. Familiarity with the Northern Plains economy and/or agriculture;
6. Ability to obtain a valid driver's license.
