JOB SUMMARY

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The Patient Care Technician provides patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Record vital statistics and other basic health information. Administer basic health care and medical treatments; provide assistance with basic daily living activities, including dressing/undressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, etc., meal preparation and dining needs, emotional and spiritual needs, and laundry. Clean patient living areas or treatment rooms. Collect non-invasive biological specimens from patient. Prepare patient treatment areas for use; prepare and clean medical equipment; dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy. Perform clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient healthcare. Strong communication, customer service, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are needed on a daily basis.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information. Completes tasks and inspires confidence in leaders by demonstrating honesty and integrity. Delivers written and oral communications that engage audience participants, respond to their questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Demonstrates open, friendly, accepting, and supportive behaviors with team members. Demonstrates sensitivity to speakers by positive language, verbal and non-verbal. Explains the mission, vision, and objectives of own position within the industry. Helps link organizational objectives to customer needs and expectations. Identifies standards and procedures associated with medical specimen collection and processing. Operates and maintains medical equipment based on specific policies. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Uses a variety of computer hardware, operating systems, utilities, and applications.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Day and Evening shifts - Eight and twelve hours with every other weekend.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be registered as a Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) through the North Dakota Department of Health within four months from the date of initial employment. High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) is required. Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
