JOB SUMMARY

Conduct Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs under the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
Develop curriculum, supervise student clinical work, provide educational opportunities and evaluate students. Work to design a system-sponsored Clinical Pastoral Education Center, accredited through the ACPE, with curriculum for student-centered learning.
Respect and protect student rights to a quality CPE center and excellent supervision. Conduct timely admission interviews, communicate admission decisions and handle application materials.
Assign, review and comment on student-written material in a timely manner. Evaluate the students' personal and professional functioning, evaluate reports in with ACPE standards, and complete ACPE registration forms for students that complete their program.
Lead chaplains, spiritual care visitor volunteers and students to ensure that multi-faith spiritual care aligns with the Professional Standards of Chaplaincy.
Offer CPE programs for basic and advanced levels in all four Sanford Health markets. Cooperate in the planning and administration of the overall training of Spiritual Care Services Department.
Work with Spiritual Care leadership to develop, coordinate implement and evaluate spiritual care services, and serve as a knowledgeable, ethical and religious resource patients, families and employees across the continuum of care.
Facilitate CPE Professional Advisory Group meetings to inform members of educational activities and to receive suggestions for maintaining standards of excellences in the program. Work with the Spiritual Care Services leadership to deliver pastoral care coverage and participate in other pastoral care programs as requested.
Deliver pastoral care programs and activities, and support an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care among chaplains, and assist with the coordination of visitors from the religious community. Keep records of pastoral activity to communicate with the department and the enterprise.
Author or co-author materials relevant to spiritual care and pastoral education. Contribute to the wider community through interaction, presentations, publication, teaching and research, and serve on institutional committees.
Participate in various team meetings, interdisciplinary team rounds, care conferences, in Faith Community Advisory Committee meetings, in maintenance of proper administration procedures for the Spiritual Care Services department, in teaching/lecturing, in consultations with departmental leadership, in professional development activities and supervision, including chaplaincy-related and CPE-related professional organizations, and in planning and administration of spiritual care services with specific emphasis on the overall training program.
Must possess a theological, psychological and educational understanding of spiritual and human dynamics; knowledge of worship, medical ethics and the pastoral counseling role in a health care setting.

Develops clear criteria and guidelines for determining optimal fit between individuals and key roles. Networks with other clergy to discuss theology theories and practices of one's own religion. Preserves institutional history while participating in future-oriented initiatives. Directs the propagation of religious traditions and reforms in a particular religion. Designs spiritual assessments and pastoral care strategies for followers. Monitors spiritual leaders' activities to ensure compliance with ethics codes for spiritual care professionals. Initiates systematic improvements in the effectiveness of religious ministries.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s level theological degree from an accredited seminary.
A minimum of five years pastoral care experience, two years of management/leadership experience and two years CPE supervisory and administrative experience are required. Must have a theological and psychological understanding of spiritual and human dynamics; knowledge of ritual, and psychological understanding of spiritual and human dynamics; knowledge of worship, medical ethics, and the pastoral counseling role in a health care setting.
Must maintain certification as a CPE Supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (certification will be
tracked within the department) and remain in good standing with this organization. Ordination and/or endorsement for service
by appropriate church body. Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains or certification eligible
required; must obtain certification within two years of hire.
