Job Details

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Manage daily engineering operations within the production plant. Assist production managers and other personal with standardization as well as micro and macro production efficiencies and improvements as needed. Research, test and evaluate existing as well as implement new ways to improve efficiency and cost effective measures while maintaining safe practices and good quality. Work on developing methods to inform and educate the production department, along with associated departments, leads the plant’s lean manufacturing efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs structural analysis and design of concrete products for required loads and building codes;
  • Champions the plant’s various lean initiatives including 5S, Kaizen events, QIT leadership, and being a resource for utilization of Quality tools and analytics.
  • Assists in design work for approved updates and improvements;
  • Investigates load-carrying capacities of embedded hardware and devices in concrete;
  • Analyzes and designs special formwork for concrete products when needed and the anchorage to concrete substructure.
  • Incorporates engineering requirements into the production practice to ensure conformance with safety and quality specifications;
  • Meets to discuss issues that arise within quality control, production, ready mix, patching, repair and yarding personnel daily;
  • Performs research and development for production that can lead to more efficient construction processes and/or have a production cost reducing effect;
  • Analyze current processes to compare and contrast with other sites to determine best practices to implement;
  • Help define and document (paper/video) processes to be used for standardization and training;
  • Researches and develops testing and techniques for existing and new precast panel handling hardware and devices and incorporates the test results into production practice;
  • Reviews new concrete formwork drawings and specifications and directs the layout and installation in plant;
  • Supervises and manages other employees;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Overall knowledge in engineering, production, construction and erection processes of building concrete structures;
  • Formal training in TQM principles and experience in deploying and utilizing the principles in a manufacturing setting;
  • Overall understanding in design, production and building erection processes;
  • Knowledgeable use of computer skills and software – AutoCAD, LECWall, LECPres, LEAP Presto, PC-Help, PROFIS Anchor, Enercalc, StruWare, MS Office;
  • Ability to find areas that can be improved to maintain a lean production facility;
  • Resolve problems dealing with the production inefficiencies;
  • Ability to work with other departments to get projects completed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree Process Engineering desired.  As an alternative to a Bachelor’s Degree, 3 – 5 years’ experience in the above listed Essential Functions and Responsibilities;
  • In addition to the Bachelor’s Degree or alternative 3-5 years of experience in the above listed Essential Functions and Responsibilities;

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office conditions with high exposure to production environment;
  • Exposure to unusual elements such as chemicals and dust, which require the use of personal protective equipment to abate the effects of such exposure;
  • High safety precautions necessary;
