Typical Day in the Life

We are seeking a Senior Consultant who is looking to improve business operations through efficiencies and process improvements to deliver a strategic business value to our clients. Our ideal candidate will be naturally inquisitive, driven to find optimal solutions and is at ease in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. A typical day as a Senior Consultant may include the following:
  • Combine traditional management consulting practices in strategy, operations, technology, and talent to deliver high-impact, challenging projects to our clients in the public sector.
  • Serve in an advisory role to clients on strategy, operational effectiveness and best practices while directing consulting teams to follow up on direction
  • Consult with our clients to drive improvement in their processes and operations
  • Conduct industry and client research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Support design, development and implementation of business operating models, including vision and strategy, business processes, organizational and governance structures, supporting tools and templates, and performance metrics
  • Utilize your excellent consultative sales abilities and analytical skills to align clients' business goals with appropriate results-driven solutions
  • Identify and lead opportunities for developing new business, leading the proposal development process and identifying ways in which to expand our current engagements through consultative services
  • Manage client relationships and providing direction and oversight to project teams
  • Collaborate across the firm and within this industry group to develop our strategy and grow our consulting services in this area
  • Understand our client's business and industry
  • Analyze the client's current situation to identify issues and business challenges to translate these into meaningful insights and present recommendations to key decision makers
  • Develop strong relationships with client stakeholders, management leaders, and executives
  • Move a client into action with a plan to implement strategic recommendations and to manage the execution
  • Achieve a strong reputation as a business and technology advisor
  • Create long term relationships with clients and within our firm

 

Who You Are
  • 5-8 years of experience with a consulting firm delivering strategy and operations projects
  • Business school graduate, advanced degree holder or experienced professional
  • Superior organization skills with the ability and desire to balance multiple projects of varying complexity at the same time
  • Track record of successful project leadership
  • Deep understanding of change management practices, particularly stakeholder analysis and communications
  • Broad understanding of how public sector entities operate and an understanding of the relationship between major functional areas
  • Deep functional expertise in one or more of the following areas: state government, cities, counties, federal agencies, school districts
  • Broad understanding of the use of enterprise systems in organizations and trends in cloud applications, system integration, and mobile technologies
  • Familiarity with one or more public sector software solutions (ERP/business management, court case management systems, public safety technology, utility billing solutions, planning, permitting and licensing solutions)
  • A desire to work collaboratively and a natural ability to network
  • Proven sales acumen, with ability to sell large advisory / services engagements
  • A solid team player who is also an independent thinker
  • Strong ability to influence and motivate
  • Deadline-driven, organized and able to multitask
  • A robust analytical skill set
  • Excellent business writing and presentation skills
  • Willing to go where our clients are, with up to 50 percent of your time being travel
