Position Summary:

The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial analytical support to the Director of Finance. This position will play a key role in developing and supporting the strategic planning, annual budget and forecasting process as well as assisting in business segment reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will be able to think outside the box and look beyond the numbers to understand what drives the businesses.

Essential Responsibilities:

Job Function Number 1: Budget and Forecasting - 60%
  • Assist with coordination, development and implementation of annual budget and interim forecasts.
  • Develops reports, models and other analytical tools to measure, forecast, and analyze the annual budget and forecasts on an ongoing basis to enhance the budget process.
  • Create and maintain financial business models, including the Company's forecast model in Axiom, to provide business insight for all business segments.
  • Assist with preparation of various management and board presentations related to budget and forecasts.



Job Function Number 2: Business Segment Analysis and Reporting - 25%
  • Develops reports, models and other financial analytic tools to measure, forecast and analyze financial performance and enhance budget vs actual reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including dashboards, trends and other financial reports for business leaders highlighting and explaining variances to budget.
  • Analysis of net interest margin, fee income and expense by business segment.
  • Assist with preparation of various management and board presentations.



Job Function Number 3: Project Analysis & Reporting - 15%
  • Assist with financial due diligence on potential merger and acquisition opportunities including peer/competitor comparisons and capital planning.
  • Support finance group in running quarterly ALCO analysis and reports ensuring company meets ALCO policy guidelines.
  • Support new business initiatives as needed.
  • Assist with cash flow forecast to support liquidity needs of Alerus as well as stress test forecast to ensure backup liquidity is sufficient.

Position Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • 5 years of financial services industry experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, MBA preferable.
  • Significant budget and forecasting experience, valuation experience, regulatory knowledge.
  • A history of providing business unit profitability analysis, and understanding the underlying drivers of the business. The ability to present findings to a non-financial audience.
  • ALCO knowledge.
  • Axiom experience a plus.
  • SNL Experience.
  • Microsoft products: Excel, Access, Word. Power Point.

Physical Demands: (must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation)
  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
