Overview

Part-time, unbenefited position working 8 hours per pay period on variable days/hours.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator will provide leadership to the SANEs to ensure professional, compassionate, and timely collection of forensic evidence for survivors of sexual assault or rape ages 14 and above. Additionally, the coordinator will interact with multidisciplinary persons/departments to ensure that the program functions smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains a reporting structure to Nursing and Medical Directors. Shares all information as needed to ensure program functions.
  • Acts as a resource in current state legislation and maintains knowledge to ensure program functioning.
  • Prepares and provides orientation and performs evaluation of personnel in the SANE program.
  • Establishes annual competency and quality assurance goals.
  • Schedules meetings to provide timely updates and disseminate necessary information to ensure program functions.
  • Prepares and distributes meeting minutes, and other written communication to ensure that necessary information has been communicated.
  • Create development programs and education to foster growth and development.
  • Works collaboratively with the Emergency Department Manager.
  • Provides data as indicated to the SANE/SART Coordinator to assure accurate record management and quality assurance process.
  • Assists personnel in preparing for courtroom proceedings.
  • Oversees and completes all paperwork required to compile statistics for funding resources.
  • Assists and shares knowledge of program functions to hospital providers.
  • Establishes good relationship with community resource personnel: provides feedback as needed to law enforcement.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines in the community who provide unique services to sexual assault victims. These may include: advocates, law enforcement, crime lab personnel, child protection and attorneys to assure that the response to a patient who has been sexually assaulted in their community is victim-centered and compassionate, resulting in a successful criminal justice response.
  • Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures.
  • Provide services in a manner that avoids further trauma to all sexual assault survivors in the healthcare environment.
  • Provides direct care for survivors of sexual assault or rape ages 14 and above utilizing the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.
  • Assesses the victims' condition considering age-specific developmental needs, educational needs and discharge planning needs.
  • Develops a plan of care for the victim and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Evaluates victims' outcomes and modifies plan of care as patient's needs or condition changes.
  • Directs and participates in discharge planning.
  • Reports and records pertinent observations accurately and concisely.
  • Know and understand the necessity of physician consultation when appropriate.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments as ordered by the physician.
  • Initiates and/or assists in emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in victims.
  • Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Offer support and participate in professional organizations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

Work requires a professional level of knowledge acquired by completing an accredited RN nursing education program. Must hold RN licensure from the ND State Board of Nursing for the current year. Has completed the SANE training, and has an interest in promoting forensic nursing.

Previous supervisory experience, teaching, or leadership experience preferred.

Time to reach competency on the job: 3 weeks to 3 months.
