JOB SUMMARY

Provides guidance and work direction to ensure that daily responsibilities of staff sonographers are properly delegated. Provides leadership to ensure staff perform their job duties by adhering to protocols and practices in order to have consistency and safety in the delivery of care to patients. Provides professional, technical, and clinical expertise to staff.
Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills. Initiates and coordinates quality assurance and maintains current policies and procedures.
Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations. Monitors ultrasound equipment and coordinates repairs when necessary. Performs direct patient care that ensures safe and compassionate care in an environment that is welcoming to patients and their families.
Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating clinics, referral, or commercial agencies. Provides assistance and input on budgetary issues that relate to sonography and departmental needs. Works in partnership with other healthcare professionals utilizing effective communication skills and a positive attitude, to facilitate optimum patient care.
Adhere to safety and infection control policies established by Sanford Health. Plays a major role with acquiring and maintaining of accreditation when assisting with the processes and requirements. Possesses the knowledge and ability to observe, evaluate, and participate in the educational processes of the sonography and radiologic technology students when appropriate. Precepts and orientates new employees. Supervises and train students and medical sonographers as needed.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Understands and clarifies the different modes of ultrasound-based examination techniques. Responds to day-to-day operational priorities while still making progress on project work. Provides information to peers regarding all standard and routine methods for controlling disease and infection. Promotes and ensures patient satisfaction while complying with safety and regulatory requirements. Perform clerical duties, such as scheduling exams or special procedures, keeping records, or archiving computerized images. Maintain records that include patient information, sonographs and interpretations, files of correspondence, publications and regulations, or quality assurance records, such as pathology, biopsy, or post-operative reports. Inspects medical equipment for functionality and arranges for repair as needed. Ensures that all equipment or related supplies are in proper working order prior to use. Employs workflow standards to measure workflow performance. Develops expertise in quality assurance tools, techniques, and standards. Develops evaluation systems to assess the operation of devices in the PACS. Demonstrates open, friendly, accepting, and supportive behaviors with team members. Coordinate work with physicians or other healthcare team members, including providing assistance during invasive procedures. Consults on latest accreditation and performance standards. Applies ultrasound-based techniques to examine and diagnose medical conditions. Recognizes changing demands and priorities; validates changes with management.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Position is full-time, 80 hours per pay period. Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm and 8:00am-5:00pm. Will work at both the East and West Dickinson Clinic locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Imaging, Allied Health Certificate/Diploma or a minimum of three year
equivalent work experience preferred.
Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists (ARRT) in the field of sonography is required.
For employees who provide outreach mobile services, maintenance of a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. This may include passenger on flights and occasional overnight stays at assigned sites. Employees are held to the Sanford category driver's license policy and medical guidelines when applicable for job duties.
If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (MIRT) Board of Examiners is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is
required.
