The Rochester Post Bulletin is hiring a full-time Editor who will be responsible for planning, coordinating and directing overall content strategy, newsroom activity and employees of the Rochester Post Bulletin's print and digital publishing platforms.

Responsibilities include:
  • Directs all activities of a department within the newsroom or the newsroom department.
  • Supervise employees within department, establish schedules, hire and facilitate relevant training for employees.
  • Plan news coverage and makes decisions about what will be printed and posted online.
  • Generates ideas to utilize new media and technologies to increase audience reach.
  • Direct major news breaking stories and assigns specific responsibility to employees.
  • Write or assign staff members to write articles, reports, and or editorials.
  • Read and evaluate and organize material submitted for publication.
  • Responsible for content, copy editing and headline writing.
  • Responds to readers by telephone and/or e-mail.
  • Works with others to ensure timelines and publishing deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and recommend budget needs and capital expenditures.
  • Meets with newsroom personnel to plan coverage and long range news coverage.
  • Represent newsroom at community activities and at professional newspaper association meetings.
  • Collaborate with FCC content team and Forum News Service on digital initiatives, projects and best practices.


Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communications or related field.
  • Newsroom and editing experience prefered.
  • Five years experience in a newsroom or equivalent setting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to include computers.
  • Knowledge of digital publishing standards, content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Ability to be flexible and work under pressure and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees, management and/or groups.
  • Ability to promote teamwork and interdepartmental cooperation.
  • Ability to motivate others.
  • Knowledge of human resource/supervisory rules and policies.
  • Knowledge of AP style, the Freedom of Information Act and libel laws.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.
  • Must carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the Company.
