Position description
The LPN in the endoscopy suite works in the procedure room right alongside of the MD performing tasks and maneuvers as delegated to them from the Endoscopist. This hands-on position requires great technical skills as well as a vast knowledge of anatomy and physiology. The LPN plays a key role in collaborating with the MD and other members of the health care team to provide the best care possible to the patients. LPN's set up a room according to procedure type, MD preference and therapies or diagnostics that are ordered for the procedure. This role includes assisting the MD with equipment during the endoscopy procedure for ERCP, EUS and complex cases. Medical documentation, medication administration and review of the patient's history are all performed by the LPN. This role also includes time on our emergency bedside team who can be activated 24/7 to perform lifesaving endoscopies anywhere in the hospital.

The LPN provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN). The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the physician and/or RN in patient assessment and care planning according to standards of care. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN and physician in meeting learning/information needs of the patient/family.

Qualifications
Student or Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (eg some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.

Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinical and/or research settings. Able to work effectively with multiple members of the interdisciplinary care team. Demonstrates strong, effective and open communication skills to achieve mutual understanding and build trust and rapport with team members. Able to work in a rapidly changing environment while participating in developing innovative and creative solutions to patient care. Excels in creative experimentation and is able to explore new paths, procedures, and/or approaches to models of care teams. Displays flexibility in adapting and coping with accelerated changes within the environment.

License or certification
Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.

Must obtain prior to start date:

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS - certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:
  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area. Failure to complete the education/orientation requirements will be handled accordingly per departmental guidelines.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $21.52 per hour.
