Hiring Department: Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC)
 
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification: $60,000, Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, and annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available include supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, and supplemental retirement plans. 
Work ScheduleMonday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

We are looking for an experienced, energetic and motivated, and scientifically trained geoscientist to contribute to the success of the organization by performing the following functions:

  • Developing and overseeing the development of geophysical models of the subsurface.
  • Performing regional geological characterization.
  • Performing petrophysical analyses of geophysical well log data.
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Interfacing with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to assess project uncertainties in oil and gas development and geologic CO2 storage.
  • Position requires excellent written, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Some travel is required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Geology, Geological Science, Geologic Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience.
  • Experience with Schlumberger’s Petrel and TechLog.
  • Experience with technical writing, such as author or coauthor of published peer-reviewed article or technical paper.
  • Applicants will be required to present to the interviewers during the interview.
  • Applicants may be required to provide a writing sample.
  • Cover letter and resume or curriculum vitae are required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check.


In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior research related to the subsurface within the Williston and/or Powder River Basins.
  • Prior research related to geologic CO2 storage and/or CO2 enhanced oil recovery.
  • Field experience, including wellsite and field production operations.
  • Previous experience with the following:
    • Oil- and gas-related logging and/or seismic techniques, data interpretation, and integration within geocellular models.
    • Experience characterizing subsurface fracture networks.
    • Applied geostatistics in modeling subsurface environments.
    • Numerical simulation of reservoir models.
    • Mentoring or supervising others.
    • Preparing research budgets and/or managing funds.
    • Writing proposals to answer competitive funding opportunities.
