Hiring Department:  Center for Rural Health, School of Medicine & Health Sciences Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $34,000 plus/year (salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience).  This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt position.
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans. Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, may include occasional non-standard hours.  Working from home or remotely is not an available options for this position.

The Center for Rural Health (CRH) at the University of North Dakota is looking to hire an experienced and talented individual for the position of Project Assistant.  This position will provide administrative support to federal/state/private grant programs and function as part of the support structure for CRH.  The position works with North Dakota's hospitals, clinics, state agencies, and schools as part of the State Office of Rural Health.  Tasks include information gathering, report generation, programmatic tracking, database support, and general administrative support for meetings, camps, and conferences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with communication and outreach activities.
  • Perform program support activities.
  • Support special project assignments and meetings.


Required Competencies:

  • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must collaborate effectively with project staff to meet shared goals and be dedicated to quality work.  
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills; interpersonal skills; and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention-to-detail. 
  • Must demonstrate aptitude to quickly learn and use new software applications or technologies.
  • Must demonstrate good critical thinking skills; as well as the ability to plan, execute, and complete projects.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and achieving project objectives.   
  • Emphasis will be placed on candidate’s ability prioritize, multi-task, take initiative, and to work both independently and as a part of a team.  
  • Must be able to travel throughout North Dakota as needed, and occasionally to national events/meetings.
  • Requires strong word processing skills to include ability to type accurately, proof, edit, and format reports, create agendas, record minutes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Work experience in an administrative support position in an office setting.
  • Experience using computers, specifically with Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or similar) and Internet usage.
  • Cover letter and resume must be submitted, in addition to the UND application.
  • Provide short statement in cover letter that speaks to your knowledge of administrative/office processes and procedures.   Applicants that are selected for interview are encouraged to bring samples of their work.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer degree in healthcare, business, information management or similar. Experience coordinating and arranging meetings of all types; this includes working with both internal and external partners to assist with the planning and scheduling of events. Event-planning experience to include registration and cash receipt management. Customer service skills. Proficiency using videoconferencing equipment and Zoom (or similar). Experience working with healthcare systems, organizations, and in community outreach. Experience with rural health and hospital dynamics.
