Overview
Part-time, Benefited position working 40-45 hours per pay period. Days of work are Monday-Friday, with rotating weekends. Hours are varible.
Under the supervision of the HIM Manager, transcribes technical medical data from recorded dictation and monitors dictation equipment to assure a minimal amount of downtime.
Responsibilities
Qualifications
High School graduate with a 1 or 2 year college level Medical Secretary or Medical Record Technician curriculum. Employee must demonstrate the ability to transcribe on a word processor or PC at a minimum rate of 70 WPM. Must demonstrate some working knowledge in the use of a computer terminal.
Two years experience as a Medical Transcriptionist is preferred. Employee must be able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology, accuracy, good grammar and punctuation skills.

Responsibilities
- Transcribes and types medical reports including history and physicals, discharge summaries, operative reports, consultation reports, progress notes, Podiatry Clinic notes, and Speech and Audiology.
- Transcribes and types letters including Medical Staff committee inquiries and responses, transfer of patient care, Podiatry letters, etc.
- Ensures the correct spelling of medical terms and other words, punctuation and grammar in the transcribed reports and letters and makes necessary corrections without changing the sentence meaning.
- Maintains patient's date of birth in the job lister for use in productivity studies and tracking of missing dictation.
- Reports problems with any dictation equipment as well as equipment in assigned area.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Home-based Transcriptionist
- Transmits completed work to the department as processed or as requested by the department. Does not leave work inaccessible to the department.
- Works in-house on assigned weekends or as requested by the manager.
