Land O' Lakes Inc. - Melrose, MN is looking for qualified candidates to work as a Barrel Operator positions at our world-class 24 hr./7 day a week dairy foods manufacturing facility at 1000 Kraft Drive SE, Melrose, MN.
The hours are: 5 pm to 5:30 am

JOB SUMMARY:

 

This role is at a Dairy Foods manufacturing facility for Land O’Lakes, creating dairy products that stand for real, simple goodness. We believe there’s power in every drop of milk our farmers produce, and by improving production and finding innovative uses for that milk, we add a little good to people’s lives.

 

The Barrel Line Operator will be responsible for ensuring proper sealing, closing, labeling, handling and storage of all cheese packaged in CM department.  The associate will have responsibility to perform all barrel fill duties.  Through an assigned rotation, operator will be expected to be proficient and able to perform the duties of the roles identified below (Closing/Sealer, Monorail Room, Cooler).

 

 

 

HOURS: 5:00 PM - 5:30 AM

 

* Must be available to work variable shifts, weekends, and/or holidays

 

* Maintain prompt and regular job attendance is highly important

 

 

 

EDUCATION:

 

*High School diploma or GED

 

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

* 2+ years of manufacturing experience preferred

 

* Prior high speed, high tech manufacturing experience

 

* Basic computer skills

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* 18 years or older

 

* Able to troubleshoot mechanical problems

 

* Able to work in a fast-paced environment

 

* Work in cold and/or hot temperatures throughout the day

 

* Adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOPs)

 

* Ability to demonstrate knowledge in their functions and ability to troubleshoot and fix system issues is preferred

 

* Self-reliant and able to accurately work under limited supervision

 

* Ensures a safe working environment while performing assigned tasks

 

* Customer focused and able to work in a collaborative team

 

* Ability to be flexible in work performed and schedule

 

* Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions (English) and possess basic mathematical skills

 

* Ability to communicate effectively to ensure product flow to next work station

 

* Ability to perform problem solving skills, apply creative thinking, use resources, and make effective decisions

 

* Ability to meet the physical demands of the position outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis (PDA)

 

* Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

 

* Experience communicating work order progress to supervisor and production operators

 

* Knowledge of various pieces of high tech food manufacturing processing and packaging equipment. Examples include but are not limited to baggers, palletizers, and cookers.

 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Daily communication with TQ, Supervisor, office and co-workers regarding policies, procedures, documentation, quality and day to day production issues.
  • Cooperate with and support maintenance and quality activities in CWL area.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of programs, cleaning and maintain PM schedule for sealer.
  • LEAN Manufacturing – Contribute to a continuous improvement environment by participating in activities to include line side problem solving.
  • Participate in 5S program to contribute to a safe and organized work environment.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely completion of all department paperwork
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP guidelines and LQMS requirements
  • Actively contribute to a behavioral based safety culture by completing a minimum of one behavioral observation (BOS) per month.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of machine operations and overall production process
  • Other duties as assigned by Shift Lead or Production Supervisor.

 

 

Closing / Sealer Area

 

Primary Tasks:

 

  • Seal Bags
  • Weigh Barrel
  • Place Label
  • Scan Barrel
  • General Cleaning

Secondary Tasks:

 

  • Vacuum Whey
  • Disconnect, Tilt-up, Transfer Barrel to track
  • Barrel Sampling
  • Resealing and Re-classing

 

 

Cooler Area

 

Primary Tasks:

 

  • Store Barrels – Blow-off fiber, Invert, Wrap and Stock barrels
  • Transport Empty Drums to the Salter Area
  • Stock Supplies for Production
  • General Cleaning
  • Un-stack Plastic Barrels and install rings
  • Check with the salter at least once an hour to see if they need help with extenders, prepping barrels, moving carriers, etc.

Secondary Tasks:

 

  • Vacuum Whey
  • Disconnect, Tilt-up, Transfer Barrel to track
  • Barrel Sampling
  • Transport full Carriers to the Track
  • Unload Barrel from the Carrier
  • Covers Taken Off New Fiber Barrels

 

 

Monorail Room Area

 

Primary Tasks:

 

  • Vacuum Whey
  • Unload Barrel from carrier, remove press plate and extender
  • Move carrier to washer
  • Run filler for salter breaks (2 breaks on days, 4 on nights)
  • On Hard Italian – from 5:30 am to 7:00 am run filler
  • 10:00 am – 10:30 am
    • Disconnect CIP and reconnect filler
    • Reassemble Vacuum Line
    • Bring up carriers
    • Stage 2 full carts of extenders and equivalent press plates
    • Prep 7-10 barrels (bags, extenders)

 

 

 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing, working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy machinery. The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.

 

 

 

At times, you may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms. Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty. Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive and collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends. At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required. The ability to perform these requirements is necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
