JOB SUMMARY

The Cardiac Technician conducts a wide range of non-invasive cardiac tests, under direct supervision, for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Performs cardiac tests and monitors patient heart functions using diverse cardiology equipment. Checks, calibrates, and maintains cardiology equipment to ensure proper operation and accurate test results. Provides care and counseling for cardiac patients to ensure their comfort and safety during cardiac tests and treatments. Alerts nurses or physicians of critical values, abnormalities, or changes in patient responses. Obtains and records patient information and medical histories; interprets electrocardiogram (EKG) results and generates factual written reports.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to establisehd technical standards and procedures for electrocardiography. Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from HIPAA. Adheres to institutional procedures for monitoring patients' heart functions. Attach electrodes to the patients' chest, arms, and legs connect electrodes to leads from the electrocardiogram (EKG) machine, and operate the EKG machine to obtain a reading. Check, test, and maintain cardiology equipment, making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation. Detects arrhythmias and conduction disturbances and records heart actions for diagnosis. Follows hospital procedures to educate patients and caregivers on conditions and treatments. Measures the length and height of a patient's heartbeat pattern on a cardiac monitor. Monitor patients' blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to notify the physician if something appears wrong. Records and explains data and images generated from electrocardiogram examinations. Responds to day-to-day operaitonal priorities while still making progress on project work. Works in coordination with physicians and specialist teams to administer care to cardiac patients.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This role involves working with Cardiac Device Patients and cardiac monitoring. Experience with cardiac devices preferred, will train as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet one of the following criteria dependent on facility needs as it may vary by needs: 1. Associates degree in a health science field 2. Obtains Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) certification within one year into position 3. Three years experience as a cardiac technician 4. Possess Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) High school diploma or its equivalent is required. Knowledge of basic cardiac anatomy and physiology. Working knowledge of basic and intermediate life threatening cardiac rhythms, special equipment used in cardiac testing, computers, and medical terminology.
