JOB SUMMARY
The Licensed Addictions Counselor provides behavioral treatment and support to help clients or patients recover from addiction and address related issues in emotional, social, occupational, and mental health functioning. Has working knowledge of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.
Assesses the severity of addiction and related issues and issues that may help or hinder recovery. Develops individualized treatment plans specific to client issues and delivers treatment interventions to guide and support behavior change. Plans and provides treatment and continuous assessment through a variety of modalities, including individual treatment, therapy groups, and case management. Documents and maintains treatment records, including assessments, summaries, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Serves as a primary source of education to other team members regarding chemical dependency and health. Collaborates with others in the treatment planning and support of clients, including other treatment providers, primary care providers, and legal officials, when needed. Has knowledge of referral sources and community resources that are available to support treatment. Performs work duties within the scope of individual competence and licensure.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Explains treatment plans and patient conditions to patients' significant others (e.g. guardians, spouses, etc.). Develops and implements a series of individual, family or group counseling plans in various areas. Produces intake assessment reports, including problem summaries and service recommendations. Classifies symptoms using proper assessment and diagnosis techniques and communication skills. Establishes and maintains credibility with clients and teammates. Adapts interaction style to situations and people. Assesses various work situations or settings versus own strengths and limitations. Explains the concept of a functional boundary. Implements technical documentation standards, guidelines and best practices.
DEPARTMENT DETAILS
The is an as needed schedule with potential to be full-time as services grow within the department. Schedule will include mostly days with some evenings for group sessions. No Holiday or Weekends. Strongly prefer active LADC in Minnesota.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree or exempt under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148C. completion of 40 hours of continuing education every two years including six hours of cultural diversity and 6 hours of ethics, and completion of annual/bi-annual mandatory trainings.
In Minnesota, must have one of the following:
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)
Alcohol and Drug Counselor - Trainee (ADC-T)
or exempt from licensure under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148C
Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification within six months of hire.
