SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Works to utilize personnel, facilities, machinery and equipment to achieve the desired quality and quantity of production at the most favorable cost.

Accountable for solving technical problems associated with the facilities and machines used in the manufacturing process, and for developing recommendations for process improvements.


MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (*indicates peripheral functions)

1. Develops and improves production processes.


1.1 Works with production staff to identify opportunities for improvement, which may include "bottlenecks" in the process or methods and machines that are not producing

quality work.


1.2 Studies existing fixtures/tooling and develops design modifications to improve accuracy and efficiency.


1.3 Designs new fixtures/tooling for plant processes and upgrades of current machines to improve quality and efficiency including automation and robotics integration.


1.4 Develops cost/benefit analysis and layout for future purchases of machinery or development of new work cells in response to anticipated production capacity needs,

writing proposals for capital improvements.


2. Works with sales/application engineering to prepare cost estimates for given products by analyzing the production process and costing each step, providing information to be used

by corporate engineering and sales staff for proposals and product pricing.


3. Designs the manufacturing process for new parts or products and maintains process documentation when modifications to existing process are made.


3.1 Designs the manufacturing process for new parts by breaking down the process into steps, placing those steps in the correct sequence, and assigning the process to the

most efficient available machine or cell.


3.2 Leads new product introductions for manufacturing engineering department in regard to equipment specification, process layout, documentation, and manufacturing cost.


3.3 Writes and reviews engineering change requests (ECO's) to determine whether proposed changes require process modifications and either recommends that the change be

approved or recommends that the ECO not be approved based on lack of feasibility or excessive cost.


3.4 Changes process documentation to conform to new methods.


3.5 Works with supervisors to train production staff in the use new methods.


4. Provides direct problem solving support to the production and quality functions.


4.1 Troubleshoots and solves problems for assembly, machining and specific areas of production.


4.2 Oversees the use of quality tools such as statistical process control, control plans, answering questions and helping production workers with development of proper technique.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related field, and five or more years of related manufacturing engineering experience.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Relocation allowance may be provided if the individual has all of the necessary qualifications.
