Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $76,000 plus/year, Exempt, Full-time, Benefitted

Work Schedule:  8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday

The University of North Dakota (www.UND.edu) is seeking an individual who enjoys a challenge, takes initiative and aspires to deliver a superior experience and environment for our students, colleagues, and communities.  The Senior Financial Analyst is a professional position reporting to the Controller, under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Finance within the Division of Finance & Operations.

  • This position will understand all aspects of the UND general ledger/sub-ledgers, and how these are reported in the UND financial statements and financial surveys.
  • This position will be the financial reporting tool expert and the liaison to Grants & Contracts accounting staff. 
  • The position is responsible for the management and oversight of consultants hired to prepare the facilities and administrative (F&A) rate proposal, including rate negotiation and fringe benefit rate for UND. 
  • This position will be part of a team that advocates for process improvements and continually strives to be the benchmark in higher education financial services.


The Senior Financial Analyst will:

  • Prepare financial statements, work papers, data analysis, and other financial projects as requested by Controller
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting for special projects, pro formas, surveys and other data requests
  • Maintain general ledger integrity by understanding how sub-systems flow to the general ledger to resolve reconciliation issues, and document the flow of financial transactions
  • As UND moves forward with a financial reporting tool, this position is required to develop reports using the new tool. The reports developed will be for central finance, administration and campus departments
  • Collaborate with the Grants & Contracts department on accounting rules, regulations, processes, and how these affect the UND general ledger
  • Responsible for the journal entry process and approval process across campus
  • Responsible for working with consultants to submit F&A proposal every 4 years including interim reviews if necessary, and submit the DS-2 (disclosure statement)
  • Prepare data to submit a fringe benefit rate for UND
  • Serve as finance security access control officer including internal control review
  • Work with the Resource, Planning and Allocation team on reconciliations to the general ledger
  • Ability to solve issues independently
  • Make decisions or advise appropriate personnel of situation
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including active listening, critical thinking, and the ability to write and speak concisely and express thoughts clearly
  • Experience in organizing, prioritizing, and completing responsibilities in a timely manner and have ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects at one time
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail; maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Advocate for efficient and effective process improvements and best practices and assist with development and implementation
  • Train the trainer to provide the means for the trainer to develop general ledger and financial statement training for campus customers
  • Extensively use PeopleSoft and Microsoft Excel
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements
:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA
  • 5 years of accounting experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel Software
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lean Six Sigma training
  • Software implementation experience
